WHY ?
Starting from January 1st, 2023, the CCS CO2 value of a vehicle will determine if it requires payment or if a credit will be earned upon entry certification. In case a charge is imposed, the corresponding fee must be paid from the CO2 account of the vehicle before its registration.
The fees for CO2 accounts will initially be low but will increase annually. Meanwhile, the CO2 penalty values will be high but will decrease rapidly. This means that as time passes, the CO2 account may accumulate more penalties, which in turn will attract higher fees - a double-edged sword.
The fees can either be paid to Waka Kotahi (NZTA) at the retail price or can be purchased at a Market established price on 'Carbon'.
Although Waka Kotahi (NZTA) allows direct trading on their website, payments for these credits cannot be processed securely.
“Carbon’ users can create listings for credits they wish to sell or browse listings for credits they need to buy. 'Carbon' connects willing buyers with willing sellers for selling and exchanging CCS CO2 credits
Dealers who use 'Carbon' to buy and sell CO2 credits gain a competitive advantage by accessing CO2 credits at the market price and with a payment and CO2 Credit exchange guarantee.

Selling?
Transfer the credits you wish to sell into Carbons CCS CO2 Account. Then create listings for packets of CCS CO2 credits you wish to sell. Your credit sale price MUST include GST. Once you have a sale the credits you have sold will remain held in Carbons CCS CO2 account until the the payment has been received from the purchaser. Once ‘Carbon’ verifies it has the payment the Seller will create an invoice addressed to “The Carbon Trading Company” for the sold credits as directed by email.
Once the Invoice is received by Carbon the transfers are made with the credits being deposited into the purchasers CO2 account and the sale proceeds being transferred in your ‘Carbon’ account where you can withdraw the funds from.
Buying?
Browse CCS CO2 credits listed for sale, purchase the credits you need, make the payment into Carbons account either by Direct Credit or Credit Card. Once ‘Carbon’ has verified the transaction the exchange is made with the credits being deposited into the your CO2 account and Carbon will process the payment into to the sellers Carbon account ready for withdrawal. Buyers will then receive an Invoice and receipt from Carbon
'Carbon' allows trading of both new and used CO2 credits.
New vehicle dealers can trade with other New Vehicle dealers who have either a Pay As You Go (PAYG) or Fleet Average (FAVG) CO2 accounts.
Used Vehicle dealers can trade with other Used Vehicle dealers who have either a PAYG or FAVG account..
How Safe is Carbon?
Carbon is a safe Market Place where Credits and Funds are held by Carbon until both parts of the transaction are verified. Once Carbon Verifies the transaction the exchange is made.
If either the credit transfer or the payment fails then Carbon will not transfer the credits or the payment and the transaction is cancelled with no credits or no money lost. No success fees are charged by carbon in the event of a failed transaction.
